Get our YMCA Cape Town team to Germany

In 2025, the YMCA Cape Town opened its doors to a group of young leaders from the German YMCA (CVJM). For three weeks, these visitors didn’t just observe, they became part of our family. They walked the streets of our local communities, shared in the workload and joys of our programs, and witnessed firsthand the resilience and potential of the youth we serve every day.

What started as an international visit quickly blossomed into a profound cross-cultural exchange of ideas, hope, and vision. As our German friends departed, they left us with more than just memories, they left us with an invitation to complete the circle.

The Opportunity: CVJM Oberbarmen

We have been invited to Wuppertal, Germany, to visit CVJM Oberbarmen. This is more than a trip, it is a “life-changing exchange.” Our team will have the rare opportunity to immerse themselves in German youth development models, participate in their local community work, and bring back innovative strategies to strengthen our programs here in Cape Town.

While the CVJM Oberbarman has graciously stepped in and applied for funding to cover some expenses, we still face a significant financial gap to make this dream a reality for our dedicated team.

Why Our Volunteers?

At the heart of YMCA Cape Town are our volunteers. These are the individuals who show up rain or shine, serving as mentors, coaches, and big brothers or sisters to children in various communities. They are the engines of development, often pouring their own time and energy into the lives of others with little expectation of reward.

This exchange would be an amazing opportunity for them. It is a chance to pour back into the people who give so much of themselves. By exposing our volunteers to a global perspective, we aren’t just rewarding their past hard work, we are investing in their future leadership.

How You Can Help

We are reaching out to our community, our friends, and our global family to help us bridge the final gap. Your donation will go directly toward:

Travel and Visa Costs: Ensuring our team can safely reach Wuppertal.

Logistics and Accommodation: Supporting our team during their three-week immersion.

Resource Sharing: Allowing us to document and bring back valuable learnings to implement in our Cape Town Y-Zone and Y-Justice programs.

Every contribution, no matter the size, is a vote of confidence in our youth and the volunteers who lead them.

Help us turn this invitation into an experience that will resonate through our YMCA Cape Town community for years to come
